In case you are lazing around and having a boring day, a couple of fun movies is what you need. These 12 fun movies on the list will make you laugh hard, give you some perspective and keep you hooked on an interesting plot. So grab some popcorn and check them out:
1. Little Miss Sunshine
Who’s in for an ultimate family road trip? A family undertakes a 700 miles long journey, that turns out to be quite eventful and memorable. The little nuances in the characters, the kind of bond that they share with each other, and even with their distinct life situations, how they come together as a unit when problems crop up is adorable. It’s a funny, upbeat and lovable movie.
2. Hunt For The Wilderpeople
This one’s hilarious. Ever seen two indifferent people bonding? Two people’s fate gets unwittingly connected as they begin a journey together that none could have imagined in the first place. They are both stiff and high headed, yet mellow deep down. It’s heartwarming to see the Ricky, a young boy, and Hector, a grown-up man getting used to each other. The movie will make you laugh hard and at the same time, fill your heart with warmth.
3.The Secret life of Walter Mitty
Walter Mitty has been living a similar life for more than a decade and a half. However, inside his head, he has lived a life full of adventures and fantasies. One day, he is pushed out of his comfort zone to bring the reel life superhero to the real life. The movie is funny, light-hearted and larger than life. I could literally feel the nerves inside my brain bubbling with happiness.
4. Groundhog Day
Phil is an ungrateful, self-centered man and is inconsiderate to the people around him. As the plot progresses, he surely learns a lesson or two, in the most unusual of ways. The plot of the movie is entertaining and unique, and the characters are relatable. This movie will keep you hooked till the end and will immerse you into Phil’s world.
5. The Intern
Ben is an old man hired as an intern by a fashion e-commerce run by a sharp, young woman named Jules. It’s fun to watch how Ben relates with people less than half his age and how he creates a place for himself in a culture which is pretty new to him. It also showcases a sweet relationship between Jules and Ben, and how each of them brings a better perspective to the other’s life. I didn’t want this movie to end.
6. Definitely, Maybe
This is a really sweet movie and starts with a father agreeing to talk about his relationships of the past, to his curious young daughter. Along the way, Maya makes him reevaluate his past judgments and choices. The movie simply flows, and you feel as if you’ve teamed up with the father-daughter duo to unravel the man’s love life.
7. Captain Fantastic
A father raises his kids away from the society. He home-schools them to ensure their intellectual prowess and subjects them to vigorous physical training while living in a cottage in the wilderness. when Ben is forced to go into the real world with his kids things get complicated and he is forced to think through his decisions. I guess we will all be able to empathize with Ben’s ideals and his decision to raise the kids a certain way. It’s a treat for people who really feel stuck in the corporate rut or are planning to live in the wilderness (at least in their imagination).
8. The Devil Wears Prada
I am sure we’ve all had a vicious boss at some point in our lives. Andrea’s first boss turned out to be that way. She learns Professionalism 101 from Miranda Priestly and acquires workaholism by virtue of the company. And that brings a significant change in Andrea not just professionally but in her personal life as well. The movie is fast-paced, funny, sensible, and inspiring.
9. We’re The Millers
Four complete strangers, brought together by chance, venture into a road trip full of unknowns and misadventures. As their journey progresses, it’s really heart-warming to see them bond and help each other out. Idiosyncratic characters, a fun story line and a cool home on wheels makes the movie a treat to watch. All this, and it’s a laughing riot.
10. Inside Out
This movie has created an impression so deep in my mind, that in many life situations, I can imagine Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, and Sadness having discussions and conflicts inside my head. Riley is a little girl, who moves to a new city with her parents and that creates a bit of a situation inside her mind. Watch it to experience one of the most interesting, mind-boggling and beautiful movies ever created.
Ever left behind at an unknown place? This movie is all about that, with a catch. The unknown place is the planet Mars. Mark, an astronaut, found himself on his own on Mars and was left to be responsible for his own happiness and food, at least for a while. It’s not just a sci-fi movie, but a story of a man who stays put in the face of unimaginable adversities and setbacks. I am glad I went to watch it on the big screen.
12. Julie And Julia
Have you ever had a mentor who changed your life and actually led you to become what you’ve always wanted to be? Julie, a young woman, finds her mentor in Julia Child who she has never met. The movie interestingly intertwines the story of Julie and Julia, both separated by time and space, and explores their lives, their unexpected and unfounded enthusiasm for cooking which eventually changes both of their lives, and their evolution as people as a result of all this. Some movies you’ve got to watch.
