Consider it a tribute to all the health freaks who bite a bullet when they resist a dessert while others are gulping down one dessert after another.
1. Mango & Banana Ice-cream
There’s not a single one of us who hasn’t had an ice-cream. And, there is also no better dessert for a hot summer afternoon than a bowl full of frozen and scrumptious goodness of mango and banana fused with milk and mint. To add more flavour of mangoes, cut a few pieces of a fresh mango and eat them along with the ice-cream. As an alternative, you can also sprinkle sliced nuts over a scoop of chilled ice-cream. Check out the Recipe.
2. Rice Pudding
If there is one thing that is a gift of divinity to mankind, it’s a bowl of rice pudding. This is a popular Asian dessert prepared from rice and milk and infused with nuts, cardamom and raisins. To make it 100% healthy you can use brown rice. It tastes equally amazing when consumed either hot or cold. Check out the Recipe.
3. Chocolate Coconut Cake
Coconut pudding topped with chocolate icing is one hell of an affair. The coconut base can either be cooked with or without milk. I’ve shared the recipe for the one cooked without using milk. Cooking it with milk is no big deal as well and adds an extra bit of softness to it. I am pretty convinced that it tastes better than your usual chocolate cake. To make it chocolaty, you can intertwine layers of coconut and chocolate icing. Here is the Recipe.
4. Whole Wheat Apple Pie
This has been a traditional American dish for quite a few centuries now. An apple pie or a tart with it’s crunchy crust and apple filling is sumptuous and nutritious. Enjoy it with a topping of whipped cream or your own mango ice-cream. Is it safe to say a slice of apple pie a day keeps the doctor away? Check out the Recipe
5. Hot Chocolate
I prefer my hot chocolate intensely chocolaty so keep the ratio of chocolate to milk 2 to 1. You make one ravishing hot chocolate for yourself, you just need to heat the milk, cream, cocoa powder, a pinch of salt, unsweetened milk powder and dark chocolate pieces in a pan to give it consistency . You can add honey once you’ve poured the hot chocolate into your favorite mug. Team up your hot chocolate with marshmallows and revel in every sip.
6. Fruit Custard
Custard has been among the popular desserts around the world for the longest time. Either you can use the custard powder available in the supermarket or easily make your own. Custard mix can be prepared by first heating egg yolk, corn flour and jaggery powder until completely consistent, and then slowing adding warm milk and continuing to whisk until you get a thick consistent custard mix. Top IT UP of freshly cut choice of fruits to make it super healthy and super tasty.
Who doesn’t love a popsicle? It’s fun licking a popsicle in a warm summer night. Ever though of making one for yourself? It’s easy to make and you can use choice of fruits. Since it’s water based, it doesn’t take much time to freeze. You can prepare a bunch of small ice cubes sized popsicles in your ice cube tray. Though how you fix a stick would be test of IQ. Check out the Recipe.
8. Chocolate Bottle Gourd Balls
Bottle Gourd, also called Calabash, is a tropical and sub-tropical vegetable and also one of the healthiest green veggies around. In case you are from the Caribbean or down under, you might have a hard time finding it. I am sure people who have had Bottle Gourd are having a difficult time believing that it is a constituent of an utterly sumptuous dessert. Check out the Recipe.
9. Unicorn Mix
It’s almost as healthy as a salad. And a good competition to the most delicious dessert you’ve ever had. There are almond, fox nuts, musk melon seeds, grated dry coconut and walnuts. Fry some Tragacanth (2 Tbs Tragacanth in 3 cups of this mixture). Blend all of these ingredients in a blender, add jaggery syrup (you can make it by boiling water with jaggery powder in it for about 10 mins) to this mixture and shake well. Before I forget to mention, it’s quite addictive.
10. Fruit Yogurt
Pick your favorite fruits, I prefer strawberries and blueberries. Blend them with yogurt and mint. To add a bit of crunchiness, you can sprinkle sliced almonds, seeds and cashew nuts. The refreshing and creamy frozen fruits yogurt is a treat to have any time of the day. And the best part is, it has all the natural ingredients.
11. Blueberry & Raspberry Muffin
A muffin is not just a dessert. I remember having two muffins for lunch for more than a week while I was on a student exchange program and not ever getting annoyed. I tried a different variety of muffin most of the days, and the one with the berries turned out to be my favorite. This whole wheat muffin infused with the nutrients of blueberries and raspberries is a pure bliss. Check out the Recipe.
12. Banana Bread
One wouldn’t imagine that something as simple as a banana bread can be especially relishing. You may spread a thin layer of peanut butter and chocolate sauce to turn it into a perfect dessert and do an intermingling of flavors. It’s wholesome and tasty, and a small portion will satiate your hunger for a dessert. Check out the Recipe.
13. Oat Dipped in Chocolate
This one’s for all chocolate lovers. There’s goodness of oats, nuts, yogurt and milk. And it’s the easiest to prepare. You just got to shake it all and that’s it. You can cut down on a heavy meal and instead gorge on this healthy dessert. By the way, I stumbled upon it on a starving, lonely, winter night and I’ve never been that way since that night. Check out the Recipe.
14. Vermicelli Pudding
Whole wheat vermicelli pudding is a dessert usually prepared in certain parts of Asia to mark celebrations and festivities. It’s made with whole wheat vermicelli and milk with added nuts. 15. Whole Wheat Brownie
A Brownie alone or topped with chocolate icing and fruits or teamed with ice-cream or coupled with hot chocolate is a divine pleasure. As you can see, brownie is adaptive and, to relish it, you can club it with anything. This whole wheat brownie is not just delightful, but also low on calories and healthier than every other version.
