Whoever thinks these light-hearted romance novels are for young adults or even teenagers, not enriching enough and hardly a part of mainstream literature cannot be farther from being mistaken. Isn’t literature and fiction writing all about being imaginative, producing engaging stories and making the readers feel good?
I love this genre. I have been reading it since I was a teenager through my young adult days to this day and age. Even now I don’t have the slightest hesitation in picking up these young adult romance novels. The most difficult emotion to bring out in readers is laughter, and that’s how awesome these books are. They make you laugh and cry, and make you vicariously fall in love and help the main character un-complicate life.
Although I wouldn’t deny that these romance novels are dreamy to a certain extent, but isn’t that one of the purposes of reading fiction. To escape into a world which is not like our own but the kind we might like to live in. So, here’s a list of top 10 romance novels (or chick lit books or romantic comedies or young adult novels, call it anything you wish to) that will tug at your heartstrings just the right way to make you feel warm, comfortable and in love.
1. Me Before You By Jojo Moyes
Book Review
The book is quite emotional and may lead to some waterworks (never mind if you are cold-hearted). I can’t accurately describe how this book got me into thinking and self-analysis mode and in what ways precisely the book moved me, but I am a changed person now (a considerate, kinder and gentler person perhaps.) The book has a fair share of comedy and romance as well. It a fun read, you guys!

2. I’ve Got Your Number By Sophie Kinsella
Book Review
The book is super funny and enjoyable. Sophie Kinsella is the queen of the chick-lit genre. At least I think so. Most of the books (“real literature”) with nuanced characters are rather complex reads and at times depressing (every heartbreaking reality of the world like people dying, suicides, ending marriages, failed careers interspersed within few hundred pages). That’s where Sophie Kinsella comes to our rescue. Her books are super fun, interesting, funny and a much-needed escape. I wish my mum could tell me bedtime stories like Sophie Kinsella does, when I was growing up (and maybe even now?).

3. Sushi For Beginners By Marian Keyes
Book Review
This is the kind of book one wishes to read after a busy and not-so-good work day. It’s an entertaining, funny, feel-good and upbeat read. On a Friday night, cozy up on your sofa and read this book till dawn. You’ll surely end up with a few dark circles, but the book is surprisingly comforting and likable.

4. The Next Best Thing By Jennifer Weiner
Book Review :
This is not the best work by Jennifer Weiner and not even a personal favourite. This book is just fine. You know, “Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine” fine. However, there’s something engrossing about the main characters esp. Daves and even Ruthie which makes me want to like the book. All said, the book is definitely funny, enjoyble and heart warming. It is going to make you want to read more of Jennifer Weiner.

5. Heroes Are My Weaknesses By Sussan Elizabeth Phillips
Book Review
I have read a couple of books from the Chicago Stars series by the author, so I have a bias towards her. This book by Susan Elizabeth Phillips is witty, suspenseful and different. The book has nice and likable characters, easy breezy flow of story and an interesting narrative. I loved the intimate moments between the main characters in the book.

6. The Hudson Valley Series By Alice Clayton
Book Review
Although all of the books on the list are my favorites, this one’s special. It is the ultimate romantic comedy one could hope for. I am in love with Alice Clayton’s sense of humor and wittiness. Nuts is an absolute laughing riot. The perfect setting, extremely well-written characters, and a clever story line makes the book an outstanding read. What more can we ask from this fast-paced, hilarious and engrossing romantic story? Nuts is the first book of the series.

7. The Mediator Series By Meg Cabot
Book Review
The characters in The Mediator series are funny, endearing and kind of interesting. The book is witty, imaginative and fast paced, and overlaps the paranormal genre. The classic love story of Susan and Jesse is the best and well intertwined with several exciting plots throughout the book series. The Shadowland is the first book of series.

8. First Comes Love By Emily Giffin
Book Review
I love the books that are centered around best friends (Something Borrowed; an amazing read) and sisters (this one). First Comes Love is enjoyable and well written. The best thing about Emily Grifin’s books is that apart from a good romance, it offers perspective on varying dynamics in relationships. The book principally focuses on forgiveness, taking stands and responsibility of one’s actions. It’s much more than a romantic comedy or a chick lit and yet a sweet, light-hearted read.

9. Bridget Jones Diary By Helen Fielding
Book Review
Bridget Jones is funny, imperfect and relatable. Since the book is pretty much about Bridget’s diary, you’d get to read the messed up emotions and feelings and perspectives. The book is a modern day pride and prejudice and enjoyable to the core. I loved how imperfect she was and that she was okay with it. Like any real person, Bridget Jones messed things up, made bad calls and found herself in complicated situations. Bridget Jones’s Diary is the first book of the series.

10. P S I Love You By Cecelia Ahern
Book Review
P.S. I Love You is the most touching, heartwarming and special romantic story you’ll ever come across. It’s a well written and emotional love story of Holly and Gerry, that’ll bring you to tears every now and then, but not in a sad way. It is the beauty of true love that will make your heart melt and eyes moist. Don’t mistake it for an intense plot that only leads to waterworks, it makes you laugh and rejoice too.
