We must all be eternally grateful to the first person who thought about movie making. Because, what would we do without movies. I have watched quite a few this year and am sure will watch plenty more by the end of 2020. Found these 15 movies on the list really worth the time and had a good laugh (or cry) watching them. So, check them out, if you haven’t watched them yet, and see if you like them too.
Before We Go
Released : 2015
Cast : Jen Smolka, Chris Shafer
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrNwcGVGrBw
Ever met a stranger, in the most unlikely circumstances, with whom you ended up having an instant connect? It is not a love story, if that’s what you are thinking. It’s a story of two people going through uneasy phases in their respective lives, bumping into each other. It’s magical to see how in just a night they spend with each other, they are able to “help” each other. Magical because these happy coincidences are what make life exciting and worthwhile. This movie is one of a kind.
Brooklyn
Released : 2015
Cast : Saoirse Ronan, Emory Cohen, Jim Farrell
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15syDwC000k
It’s not a easy to leave your country, and your family, to pursue your dreams in a distant land (esp. when it involves the most uncomfortable journey by ship that spans over several days). The best part about the movie is that though it is set in the mid 1900s, one can easily relate to the protagonist. The fact that Eilis, despite the struggles, made a firm resolve to change her life for the better, is thoroughly inspiring.
Trainwreck
Released : 2015
Cast : Amy Schumer, Bill Hader
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_KP9x80Z9Q
The movie is really funny. I love how the romantic relationship progresses between Amy and Aaron. Although it’s a romantic comedy, I think it teaches us a lesson or two about relationships, and how we sometimes evolve for our own good, when we meet the right one .
Midnight Sun
Released : 2018
Cast : Bella Thorne, Rob Riggle, Patrick Schwarzenegger
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEskVQgtwaI
This is one of the movies in the list that made me cry out of sheer love and warmth. Katie’s relationship with her dad is precious. Charlie and Katie’s sweet romance will surely melt your heart. The movie has been beautifully made and it’s easy to connect with the characters. Before I forget, I loved the best friend too.
Crazy Rich Asians
Released : 2018
Cast : Constance Wu, Henry Golding
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ-YX-5bAs0&t=7s
I’ll be frank here, Crazy Rich Asians is not among the greatest romantic comedies I have seen, but it is nice. I loved how supportive Nick was and how much he adored Rachel. The highlights of the movie were definitely the ending (really liked it) and “Can’t help falling in love with you” song.
I Feel Pretty
Released : 2018
Cast : Amy Schumer, Michelle Williams, Busy Phillipps
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVx9EFK3DWE&t=23s
Loved this one. The first three quarters of the movie is simple amazing. It’s amusing and fun to watch and at the same time extends a strong message. It is one of those movies you can watch several times. Amy Schumer has done an incredible job.
A Frosty Affair
Released : 2015
Cast : Jewel Staite, Shawn Roberts
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrhInuWBS8E
Who wouldn’t like to see two nice people, whose destinies collide and lead them into an adventure, fall in love? Moreover, the best part about romantic comedies is that a happy ending is assured. Because sometimes, you just need to be sure that a movie will lead you to a happy place, isn’t it? A frosty Affair is a sweet, feel-good and fun-to-watch movie. Both the protagonists are very real and relatable, and that’s what makes the movie a great watch.
Snow Alert! The backdrop of snow clad mountains in most part of the movie is simply breathtaking.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before
Released : 2018
Cast : Lana Condor, Noah Centineo
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=555oiY9RWM4
I joined the “To All The Boys” bandwagon late. And, I am pretty sure, almost everyone has already watched it. Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky are the cutest and perfect together, and I just loved the movie and every character in the movie. It doesn’t matter what age you are, it’s going to make your heart flutter.
The Princess Bride
Released : 1987
Cast : Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Robin Wright
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3CIXEAjcc8
If it’s been a while since someone’s read you bedtime stories but you crave for one, you’ve got to watch this movie. It’s really sweet and funny, and you’ll end up feeling part of this fairy tale. The movie is different from any other movie you might have seen in the genre. There is a unique angle to the adventure, fighting, comedy and love. (P.S. Westley, the lover, is hilarious, charming and handsome.)
The Wedding Date
Released : 2005
Cast : Dermot Mulroney, Debra Messing
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DS1bOLtMNfc
It’s unfair that Dermot Mulroney is so handsome. Apart from the fact that this is a perfect romantic comedy, I just couldn’t focus my attention on other characters when Dermot Mulroney was in the frame. How can he be so effing perfect? Every time Nick looked at Kat, it made me breathless. The movie had been on my checklist for ages, so I am finally relieved or maybe not. Oh God, why did Nick have to be so good!
Two Night Stand
Released : 2014
Cast : Miles Teller, Analeigh Tipton, Jessica Szohr
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I36I0ho3SME
You think something, but then something completely different happens. It was supposed to be one of those irrational and whimsical one night stands, but then Megan and Alec get stuck together in a room and fall in love amid all the bantering. The movie has interesting and funny conversations. Both of them also sort of end up figuring out their lives. There is no doubt that this movie will put you in a good mood.
The Other Woman
Released : 2014
Cast : Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juxTC7hYGTE
Super entertaining. This is a hilarious movie with really epic acting, awesome dialogue and plenty of laugh out loud moments. There was not a dull moment and there was always something or the other going on. The entire plot of how these women meet and team up against a guy is fun to watch. This is one of my favorite movies on the list.
Love, Rosie
Released : 2014
Cast : Lily Collins, Sam Claflin, Christian Cooke
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zL3YJKygd4
It’s a lovely movie. It circles around the lives of two close friends. Watching the movie makes me realize life is not complicated on its own. It’s as complicated as we make it to be. There are many things that the film tries to teach us but I think courage to speak out your heart is the most important one. I think the movie deserves to be watched at least once, even if you are not a hopeless romantic.
Room
Released : 2015
Cast : Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay, Sean Bridgers
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_Ci-pAL4eE
This one’s a beautiful movie that reinforces the fact that even in the direst of situations, there’s always hope. It is one of the more serious movies on the list but since it ends on a positive note, it had to be there. Joy and her son’s life before and after the escape from the room is one of the most incredible stories you’ll ever see. All the character have been wonderfully done. The relationship that Joy and her five year old son share is moving.
Failure To Launch
Released : 2006
Cast : Matthew McConaughey, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Bates
Trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evzBwXvqEl4
Another Romantic Comedy and yet another super fun movie. Tripp’s reluctance at getting into relationships and Paula’s clear-headedness makes for a really delightful love story. There’s always one thing or the other going on in the movie to keep you hooked. BTW, the movie has a great cast. I loved the movie from start to end and found it hilarious. Definitely wouldn’t mind watching it some time soon.
